SUNIA Staff is proud to introduce the members of our board, who support us in our efforts to make SUNIA possible. All directors are former members of SUNIA Staff and possess an in-depth understanding of our program and how it operates.
Helen Cashman
co-chair
Helen Cashman is the Global Strategic Projects Lead and Chief of Staff at Generation. Prior to that, she was a management consultant at McKinsey & Company’s Calgary office. She joined SUNIA staff in 2013, and served as Executive Director from 2015–2017. She is an outdoor enthusiast and in her free time loves getting out to the mountains to go camping, hiking, and kayaking.
Kaitlyn Melton
co-chair
Kaitlyn Melton was on staff from 2011–2014 (plus a bonus year in 2016). She was still on staff when she relocated to Vancouver to attend university, and decided to stay on the West Coast after getting her degree. Kaitlyn is currently a Senior Software Developer at Hootsuite, and in her free time can be found playing with her cats or doing crossword puzzles.
Hassan Mulji

Hassan Mulji is an Experienced Associate with PwC Canada and recently completed his accounting degree at the University of Alberta. He was a member of SUNIA's staff from 2013 to 2015. Hassan loves to fill his spare time with both reading and running.
Erika Hurl
secretary
Erika Hurl has recently graduated from the University of Alberta with a degree in Civil Engineering and is an estimator at PCL Construction. She was on staff from 2017 - 2018 and has always loved the opportunities SUNIA gives students. In her spare time, Erika loves cooking, knitting, and hanging out with friends.
Victor Frunza
Victor Frunza is a 4th-year Computer Science & Data Science student at the University of British Columbia. He was a member of SUNIA staff from 2014–2018. Victor enjoys reading, skiing, listening to music, and board games.
Michael DeMarco
Michael is a fifth-year Honours Computer Science student at the University of British Columbia. An Edmonton native, Michael attended the program in 2017 and subsequently served on staff from 2018 to 2020. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, playing soccer, and watching movies.
Ravi Amarnath
Ravi Amarnath was a member of SUNIA’s staff from 2002-2004. He currently lives in Toronto, where he is a lawyer with the Ministry of the Attorney General. Outside of work, Ravi enjoys spending time with his family and friends.
Alex Erickson
Alex Erickson is a final-year student at the University of Toronto. Pursuing a degree in economics and international relations, he will begin a Toronto-based consulting role in the year ahead. Originally from Edmonton, he served SUNIA staff from 2018-2020 in roles such as Registrar and Recreation Coordinator. Outside of SUNIA, he enjoys cycling, rock climbing, and nerdy podcasts
